President's Office Spokesperson Heena Waleed has stated that neither President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu nor his family filed a case over the alleged use of witchcraft.

Former State Minister at the Environment Ministry Fathimath Shamna Saleem, her sister Sana Saleem and the alleged sorcerer, Hussain Sameer from Thaa Kinbidhoo, a former cook at the President's official residence were arrested on charges of witchcraft against the President.

However, Heena denied all this.

"The President and his family have not lodged any such complaint with the police against anyone. The media is spreading baseless and false news attributed to the President and his family in connection to this matter," she said in a post on X.

However, Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulla Shareef earlier said that three suspects were arrested for allegedly practising witchcraft against the President and that an investigation was underway.

The remand detention of Shamnaz and Sana was extended by a further seven days today while Sameer was released from custody.

Shamnaz and her sister were arrested on June 23. Their seven-day remand period ended today. They will be brought to court next Sunday for a review of today's detention orders.
