Gadhdhoo MP Mohamed Ali from the ruling People's National Congress (PNC) has warned that those employed in government companies and agencies must cooperate with the government if they want to stay in their positions.
In messages sent to a social media group with employees from Gadhdhoo constituency, Mohamed expressed unhappiness over the lack of participation in PNC and government activities over the past year.
Screenshots of the messages have been circulating on social media.
“In addition to the events held, there is really no cooperation from many people to come to the campaign hall and work together by taking initiative,” Mohamed wrote in one message.
He also told employees to inform him if they cannot cooperate in government affairs.
"I want to say that I've decided to take the necessary action for this. I don't want to keep telling anyone to go [and take part in government activities]," he added.
Mohamed said that every state-owned enterprise (SOE) is a place for political work and slammed employees for not promoting the government on social media.
He warned that jobs will be given to those who cooperate politically in the future.
There are rumors that other MPs belonging to the ruling party are also threatening employees due to a lack of cooperation in promoting the government.
