President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has said one of the most important policies of his government is to facilitate more opportunities for women.

In an address on the occasion of International Women's Day, Muizzu said his government's "core policy is to expand opportunities for women, strengthen their role in governance, and empower them to become self-sufficient and independent."

He noted that the earliest records of Maldivian history depict Maldivian women as spirited and diligent.

"It is an undoubted fact the Maldivian daughters played a key role in every jihad for the country's freedom," Muizzu stated.

Noting that women are the majority in the health and education sectors, Muizzu said the high number of educated women is a positive sign for the future.
