Foreign technical expertise will be sought for the investigation into the fire that destroyed three ministry buildings, Commissioner of Police Ali Shujau announced today.
Speaking at a news conference about the incident, CP Shujau stated that the area affected by the fire has been handed over to the police. He assured the public that a thorough investigation is underway.
"I would like to note that we will seek the assistance of an overseas team for this investigation. We are coordinating with the relevant government institutions to ensure the team can begin working with our investigators as soon as possible, within the next few days," Shujau said.
"The aim is to provide answers to the public about how such a big fire occurred. In addition to that, the findings from this investigation will be crucial in preventing similar incidents in the future," he said.
Sharing details of the ongoing investigation, the Commissioner said police forensic teams are on-site, and CCTV footage is being analysed to determine the cause of the fire.
Statements are being taken from eyewitnesses and individuals who were in the area at the time of the incident. CP Shujau also urged anyone with relevant information to come forward and share it with the police.
The fire on Thursday destroyed the building housing the Ministry of Construction and Infrastructure, the Ministry of Housing, and the Green Building, which housed the Ministry of Environment.
