President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has promised to begin implementing the pledges he made during the presidential election within the next two years.

Speaking in Thoddoo island, Muizzu blamed the opposition Maldivian Democratic Party for his government's failure to carry out projects in islands.

He said the state budget approved for this year did not include projects to be carried out by his administration.

"Hopefully 2025 and 2026 will be the years when I can visit the islands and begin the work to implement the pledges I made during the presidential election," Muizzu said.

"Early next year, from January to December and 2026, these 24 months, these two years will mark the beginning of projects across the country in a certain order to fulfil all the pledges I have made. Harbours, roads, land reclamation, schools, hospitals, sports-related things, we will begin work in a specific order," he added.

Muizzu said the state budget approved for next year will focus on water and sewerage projects and road construction.

"One of the top priorities in the budget for next year will be road construction along with water and sewerage," he said.

During his visit to Thoddoo on Sunday, Muizzu promised to develop the island's roads, expand the health centre and school and establish a dollar ATM.
