Maldives has called on the international community to provide more assistance to climate-vulnerable countries.
Attorney General (AG) Ahmed Usham made the remarks at the advisory proceedings of the International Court of Justice (ICJ).
According to a statement from the AG office, Usham called on the international community to support climate-vulnerable countries.
"He further highlighted the vulnerability of Maldives to the slow onset impacts of climate change and reiterated the Maldives' position against forced relocation due to climate change," the statement read.
The statements from the Maldives government also highlighted the obligations under the climate treaty and the duty to cooperate under international law.
"They argued that the international community has a duty to assist the people of Small Island Developing States (SIDS) adapt to a changed environment due to climate change," the AG office said.
The advisory proceedings on the obligations of state in respect of climate change was initiated with a resolution adopted at the 77th session of the UN General Assembly.
