The government has allowed the premiere of the "Dheydharu Ruin" movie on November 20 after facing criticism for cancelling the booking to conduct shows to celebrate the one-year anniversary of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu's administration.
In a post on social media, video production house Kazmik International said the National Center for the Arts (NCA) has confirmed that the film can be premiered at the Olympus Theatre on the pre-booked date.
"We are deeply grateful that this matter has been resolved without significant loss or the deprivation of our rights," a statement posted on social media read.
Kazmik International said the reversal of NCA's decision is a "step towards rebuilding trust between the NCA and Maldivian artists."
The booking for the Olympus theatre was made one year ahead and the payment was fully completed four months ago.
However, the booking for November 20 was cancelled by NCA without prior notice. Kazmik International was informed of the cancellation on November 10 which was a public holiday.
According to a previous statement by Kazmin International, NCA decided to cancel the booking as they needed to "allocate the date for government use".
NCA earlier said shows to celebrate the one-year anniversary of the government will be held on November 17, 18 and 19. However, new dates have now been announced for November 18, 19 and 20.
"Dheydharu Ruin" is the first collaboration between Kazmik International and iFilms and is the second movie produced by Kazmik International. The movie stars Sharaf Abdulla and Maiha Adam and Hazif Mohamed. The cast also includes Moosa Rasheed and Nepalese actress Sushma Subedi. The movie is about human trafficking and gang violence.
