Chinese Ambassador Wang Lixin has said that a team of ophthalmologists, who are currently visiting the Maldives at the initiative of the Chinese government, have performed about 60 surgeries over the past three days.
Sharing a social media post by the Health Ministry about the work of the doctors' team, Lixin said she was pleased to share the joy of the patients whose vision has greatly improved after surgery.
"Over past three days, they have done nearly 60 surgeries for local patients, who are really grateful to Chinese doctors. So happy to see that Maldivian people benefit a lot from China-Maldives close cooperation," she said.
The Health Ministry posted photos of the Chinese Ambassador and Health Minister Abdulla Nazim meeting with the doctors' team and some of the patients.
The ministry stated that the team will provide treatment for various eye diseases and conduct surgeries during the camp.
This year's edition of the eye camp, which has been conducted since 2016 under former President Abdulla Yameen's administration, began on November 5.
Over the years, more than 5,000 people have been treated and more than 600 have undergone eye surgery through these camps.
