India plays an important role in the security of the Indian Ocean, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said today.
In a statement after his official talks with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Muizzu said stability in the Maldives is important for the security of the Indian Ocean in the same way that India is important for the security of the Indian Ocean.
He said the two countries have agreed on a "vision document" to strengthen economic ties and maritime security.
"These include cooperation in development work, expanding ties in trade and economic activities, digital and financial initiatives, energy projects, health, maritime and security," Muizzu said.
Noting the efforts being made to further strengthen relations with India, Muizzu said this includes official visits by the leaders of both countries.
Muizzu stressed that India is an important partner for Maldives' development and added that India is always ready to assist the Maldives.
Highlighting the importance of tourism for the Maldives, he expressed hopes that the number of Indian tourists visiting the Maldives would increase.
The official talks between Muizzu and Modi were held today at the Hyderabad House in New Delhi.
