The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has taken over the security of Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusan following a threat assessment on the security of ministers.

As a general rule, the MNDF only provides security to the Defense Minister. However, since last week, they have replaced police officers on the team of bodyguards for the Home Minister.

Ihusan confirmed this change to Adhadhu.

"The police and MNDF will routinely conduct a security assessment for everyone that they provide security for. Based on the assessment, they will be asked to raise the security level," Ihusan said.

Ihusan, who is one of the most influential ministers in the government of President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu, runs several agencies under his ministry. These include police, immigration and customs.

Currently, a task force formed by these agencies is working to address the problem of undocumented foreign workers. A large number of foreigners have been deported in the past few months.

Ihusan had also previously announced plans to get rid of gangs and stop gang-related crimes.
