A man has been arrested for posing as an immigration officer to rob a foreign worker.

Police said three suspects, posing as immigration officers, had entered the residence of foreign workers.

But only one suspect was taken into custody. Police said Mohamed Naveen, 44, was arrested with a court warrant.

Police accused Naveen and two others of entering the residence and stealing a mobile phone and MVR 9,000 from a Bangladeshi man.

Police said further investigations were underway, but did not clarify whether they had identified the two other suspects of the case reported yesterday.

The incident came amid a major operation by Immigration to address the problem of undocumented foreign workers.

A large number of undocumented workers have been deported in the past few months.
