Police have arrested six people with more than 1.5 kg of drugs during an operation on Noonu Velidhoo island.

Police said 1547.44 grams of drugs were seized after raiding several homes during the operation on Thursday. Police did not disclose the type of drugs seized.

Seven people were arrested in the operation, but the court released one. One of the remaining six was remanded in custody for eight days and the other five for five days.

Ahmed Murshid was remanded in custody for eight days while Abdulla Nishad, Ahmed Asim, Ahmed Naushad, Ali Rasheed and Mohamed Maid were remanded in custody for five days.

Police also seized more than MVR 50,000 worth of Rufiyaa and dollars from the suspects.
