President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu has made appointments to the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) and the Human Rights Commission of the Maldives (HRCM).

Former Vice President of the Elections Commission (EC) Ismail Habeeb was appointed to the HRCM. His name was proposed by the President and the Parliament approved on July 31.

Seventy-six MPs were in attendance during the vote, out of which 73 voted in favour and three voted against.

Habeeb has been a member of the EC for the past 10 years. He was the Vice President of the commission in the last presidential election.

Meanwhile, Civil Court Judge Farhad Rasheed was appointed as a member of the JSC. He was appointed to the post after winning the August 10 vote to elect a lower court judge to the commission.

Five candidates contested in the election and Criminal Court Judge Ibrahim Ihusan received 71 votes while Farhad received 91 votes.

The JSC investigated a case of alleged misconduct involving Farhad last year. However, the case was dismissed as no evidence was found.
