The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday lifted the suspension of the awarding of 4,000 flats under the “Gedhoruveriya” scheme after an inquiry.
ACC authorized the Housing Ministry to resume awarding the flats with instructions to review disputed application forms. The ministry was also instructed not to change forms that were found to have been evaluated fairly in accordance with the rules and criteria.
The commission told the ministry to determine rules for matters that were not specifically addressed in the evaluation criteria and to follow the same standard or procedure in reviewing the forms without bias.
ACC started investigating the 'Gedhoruveriya' flats case while the previous government was in the process of awarding the flats after having published the final list of recipients during its last days in office. The commission stopped the process amid allegations from the public over abuse of authority to unfairly hand out flats to ineligible applicants.
