The Velana International Airport (VIA) has set a new record with 925 flight movements in one day.

The highest number of air traffic movements this year was recorded on Saturday, according to the Maldives Airports Company Ltd (MACL), the airport operator. A new record was set on Saturday with 925 air traffic movements.

The previous record for one day at VIA was 861 air traffic movements.

Saturday's record movements include 104 international movements, 116 domestic movements, 672 seaplane movements and 33 private jet movements, MACL said.

A large number of tourists visit the Maldives every year during the winter and New Year holiday period. A total of 50,983 tourists have visited so far this year with a daily average of 5,665 tourist arrivals, according to the Tourism Ministry.
