Police seize Facebook page selling vapes

Police have seized a Facebook page selling vapes, which was banned in the Maldives in 2024.

Two houses a two vehicles were raided in Male' during the operation on Friday, following a tip-off about vape sales.

Police said 80 vape cartridges were recovered from a motorcycle, while 59 vape cartridges were seized from an apartment.

Police did not say how many people were fined in connection with the case.

With the amendment to the Tobacco Control Act, giving a vape free of charge carries a fine of MVR 10,000, while using vapes can be fined by MVR 5,000.

A person who sells vapes will be fined MVR 20,000, with an additional MVR 10,000 for each vape stick sold.
