Deputy Police Commissioner Farhad Fikry has been dismissed as the Acting Police Commissioner just an hour after he was officially tasked with the responsibilities.

The government has now announced Deputy Police Commissioner Ismail Naveen as the new Acting Police Commissioner following the resignation of Ali Shujau.

At 7:46 pm, Homeland Security Minister Ali Ihusaan announced the temporary handover of the police force to Farhad.

But an hour later at 8:46 pm, Ihusaan announced that Naveen had been appointed as the Acting Police Commissioner.

The government faced criticism after Farhad was first announced as the Acting Police Commissioner. He was previously accused of destroying evidence in a rape case connected to his son.

On May 7, 2018, the Prosecutor General's (PG) office sent a letter to the police saying that "Farhad Fikry had been found to have influenced" a case involving the rape and photography of a 16-year-old girl inside a guesthouse.

According to the letter, Farhad is accused of deleting photos on a phone. The letter said the nude photos were taken by Farhad's son while the girl was being sexually assaulted.

Meanwhile, former Commissioner Shujau resigned today amid nightly protests by young people demanding accountability and a transparent investigation into the unexplained ninth-floor fall of a young woman.
