The Employment Tribunal has ruled that Aishath Jennifer was illegally dismissed from the post of Deputy Managing Director of the Island Aviation Service (IAS) on December 28 last year.
The tribunal ruled on October 13 that Jennifer was dismissed in violation of the Employment Act because there were no circumstances that would allow an employee to be dismissed.
The tribunal ordered IAS to reinstate Jennifer to her former position and pay her the salary and benefits for the period from the date of her dismissal to the date of the ruling on the case.
Jennifer was paid MVR 56,171 per month with salary and allowances. This means the IAS owes her MVR 561,710 for the 10 months after her dismissal.
The tribunal also ordered IAS to pay one month's salary and allowances as compensation for the losses caused by the dismissal. The ruling ordered the money to be paid within 30 working days.
